Martin Luther King Day is Monday, January 20, 2020.

Since it was first observed nationwide in January of 1986, Martin Luther King Day has served as a reminder to honor the doctor’s legacy to the causes of civil rights, nonviolent opposition and community service.

For its 34th annual MLK celebration, BAM presents a full day of events, including live music performances from Son Little and the Brooklyn Interdenominational Choir, a film screening of Aretha Franklin’s concert Amazing Grace and a speech from Nikole Hannah-Jones, the creator of New York Times Magazine’s 1619 Project. There will also be a community art exhibition, Picture the Dream, featuring works by students from NYCHA.

Along with becoming a volunteer in NYC, we also suggest taking the time to explore the epicenter of African-American culture—Harlem, New York.
